"Why aren't you on Amazon?"
We hear this a lot. For a hand carved teak furniture workshop, a marketplace listing looks like the obvious next step. Get listed, let millions of shoppers find you, sell more.
But if you want to buy solid wood furniture online, a marketplace is built for a different kind of product. It works best for things that come in one size, one colour and one price, and ship from a warehouse the next day. A teak bed made to order in Saharanpur is none of those things. Listing it that way would work against the very things our customers say they value about us.
Why Custom Solid Wood Furniture Doesn't Fit a Marketplace Listing
A marketplace listing is a fixed product, a fixed price and a checkout button. Solid wood furniture rarely works that way.
- The wood varies. No two teak boards have the same grain. Many customers want to see their actual piece, not a stock photo of a similar one.
- Sizes and finishes change with every order. A bed length, a polish shade, a headboard pattern, the leather on a panel. Our customers ask us to adjust something on most orders, and a fixed listing has no place for that.
- Made to order takes time. A single piece takes us about two months, mostly because the finish goes on in multiple coats with drying time between each. A marketplace built around fast delivery puts pressure on exactly that step.
- Marketplace fees push sellers towards cheaper material. Commission, shipping and return costs all come out of the price. To stay competitive, many sellers cut the wood grade or skip finishing coats. We would rather turn down an order than build to that price.
How Buying Direct From the Workshop Works
Most of our customers never visit the workshop. Their orders close over a WhatsApp chat or a phone call, and that conversation does the job a product page cannot.
When you message us, you get:
- Photos and video of the exact piece, not a catalogue image standing in for it.
- Straight answers about the wood, including the grade of teak and why we use sheesham only for dark finishes.
- Room to change the design. Ask for a different size, polish shade or pattern before a single board is cut.
- A person to come back to if anything about delivery needs sorting out.
A listing page cannot have that conversation with you. A person can. If you want to know more about the timber before you message us, the woods we use explains how teak and sheesham differ.
The Tradeoff, Honestly
Staying off Amazon and Flipkart costs us reach. Some people who would have found us in a marketplace search never come across us at all. That is a real loss, and we accept it.
In exchange, we keep control over the things that matter to us: the wood we use, the finish we put on it, the honesty of our answers, and the relationship with the person buying. For furniture meant to stay in a family for decades, we think that trade is worth it.
Where to Find Us Instead
We are not on Amazon or Flipkart, and we are unlikely to be soon. You will find us on WhatsApp, on our website, and through the people who have already bought from us. Our Google reviews are a good place to hear from them directly.
Browse our king size bed collection or solid wood dining tables, then message us with your room size and what you have in mind. We will show you the piece before you decide.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I order from Woodstocks without an online checkout?
Send us a message on WhatsApp with what you want and your room measurements. We reply with options, photos and a quote, and most orders are finalised over a short phone call. Nothing gets cut until you have agreed on the wood, size, finish and design, so you know exactly what you are paying for before work starts.
How long does a made-to-order solid wood piece take?
About two months for most pieces. Much of that time goes into finishing, because the polish is built up in multiple coats and each one has to dry before the next goes on. Rushing that step is how cheaper furniture ends up with a finish that chips or dulls within the first couple of years.
Do you deliver outside Saharanpur?
Yes. We deliver across India and also ship worldwide. Large pieces such as beds and dining tables are made so they can be taken apart for transport and put back together at your home. Share your city when you message us and we will explain how delivery works for your order.
Is buying direct from the workshop cheaper than a marketplace?
Not always, and we do not try to be the cheapest. What you pay goes into the wood and the work, not into platform commission. If a price can only be met with a lower wood grade or fewer finishing coats, we say so and decline the order instead of building a weaker piece.
How can I trust a furniture seller I have never visited?
Ask to see the piece. We send photos and video of your actual furniture, answer questions about the wood grade in writing, and have a 5-star rating on Google from customers who bought the same way. Most of our buyers never visit the workshop, and their reviews are the best guide to what to expect.
